Now that they're most likely not developing HexChat any more, it might be
time for a change.
Does it no longer serve your purpose?
Noy getting bug fixes? No new features? I'm not married to one client and there's a boatload of IRC clients out there to play with.
I'm with you here. Especially with any software working across a network, at a minimum security updates should be a thing. I'm not sure it's necessary to keep development going full time, as long as someone can provide security updates.
