I am thinking with government restrictions in Australia and the United Kingdom, we should be using BBSing as an alternative medium. Its akin to HAM radio now.

You should not need to submit your ID just to use a bloody search engine.

    Agreed up to a point.

The European Union is talking about deploying an European managed competitor to X, with the express purpose of having a policed social media that belongs to the European governments. They plan to enforce mandatory ID for it.

I expect it to flop but in reality I am sur ethey do too. It is all a scam to waste tax money.

Fun fact, there is a character in that game whose role is that of an evil right-wing antagonist trying to turn you into a radical. Can you imagine what happens when you put a patriotic hot goth girl in front of 14 year olds? Yeah, they turned her into a right-wing icon, much like Torrente
was turned into a right-wing icon in Spain despite the fact he was
    created to ridicule the right-wing.

that was quite funny actually. they made her hair purple because they assumed that people leaning right might associate that with something negative the same way they do when they see left wing people with brightly colored hair.

turns out it's not the hair color that's the problem with those people ;)

"The government says firms must take "reasonable steps" to keep kids off their platforms, and should use multiple age assurance technologies.

These could include government IDs, face or voice recognition, or so-called "age inference", which analyses online behaviour and interactions to estimate a person's age.

Meta said it blocked approximately 550,000 accounts during the first days of the ban."

YOU'RE saying the word "groceries." YOU'RE inserting an (perceived) intended meaning.

I think the only places I occasionally DO show my ID are at the bank, the secretary of state, and the GROCERY STORE.

It makes lefties extremely upset when you point out the homeless drunks that walk around downtown in various cities have no problem getting a state ID to continue to do what they do. Yet somehow a sixteen year old kid with no intention of getting a drivers license is somehow incapable, heck even put through significant hardship in the course of getting an non-drivers-license state ID. Right.. So if these guys do just fine using their ID at the grocery store and gas station for boozin', why can't everyone else do it to vote?

Maybe it's because we're not talking about people who are eligible for a legitimate ID in the first place? :)

I find it interesting that foreigners tell stories of what is needed to be done in Australia and how life here is bad because of it.

Normally I skip past this crap, but I thought I'd dig a bit deeper to see where people are getting their information from...

I think a lot of this is a case of "Let's eat Grandma!" vs "Let's eat, Grandma!" and intuition not questioning that the first comment seems odd.

Naturally I was only speculating. I was only thinking of how a government *could* implement such a thing. Also, I didn't realize you're in Australia; you know more about what's happening there than I do.

Yep, OK. Not sure why he would say that, unless he meant to buy
alcohol or cigarettes or somethning. We all (including you) know that isn't true.

Yes, but the president of my country doesn't know, and that's the
    concern.

Yes, but... even he knows. He's just talking out of his ass, like he
often does, and like virtually all/any other politician does most of the
time. They just can't seem to help it.

Yes, If you buy alchhol or tobacco you have to show id.
    So Trump is correct.
    Trump always baits the left.

    Groceries. He said Groceries.

cigarettes and alchohol are groceries, when my wife and I
go grocery shopping I buy myself some beer.
    beer = groceries.

Apparantly, when you saw "Lefties blah blah blah" you decided to ignore the entire message, including the part where fusion recited /exactly/ what the President said (which wasn't "groceries"). Spinning what was actually said into something else doesn't make it true. :|

If you can honestly say you have never had to show your ID at a "grocery store" before, while buying chewing tobacco, cigarettes, or beer/wine/liquor (specific things that DO require showing of an ID), then bless your soul. I doubt you can, though, after recently announcing you stopped drinking not too long ago.

Trump also equated showing ID at the gas station, something I've never done. As for showing an ID at the grocery store, I suppose he should have been clearer about showing ID at a grocery store when buying age-restricted items.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the intended message seemed to be you need to show your ID at the grocery store (every time). At least I'm not the only one, if that's the case.

Yes, because at a gas station, you can also buy chewing tobacco, cigarettes, and alcohol (sometimes). Most definitely, he should have been more clearer (is he ever, though?), precisely because people like to take what he says and twist it into something completely different.

Don't get me wrong, I think the guy can be a complete tool when it comes to some of the shit he says, but damn. We gotta stop completely far fetching what people say just to try to make a point for one side of the political spectrum or the other. They're causing the chaos, and people are biting; hook, line, and sinker.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the intended message seemed to be you need to show
your ID at the grocery store (every time). At least I'm not the only

Never once did he say "every time." It seemed to me as though he was listing off places that you occasionally need to show your ID, and then comparing that to people NOT wanting it for voting. Basically a WTF?! statement.

Either way, the original discussion was about EU and Australia. Which, if they want adults to show ID for pr0n, maybe they should. Kids should have to work for that 15 minute half a boob .jpg download, or getting your ass whooped for stealing a Playboy! We sure as hell had to!

But letting the governments deem what's unsafe and what's not may not be the best idea, and may be asking for trouble.

and just to be fair, Do you really think that President Trump goes to grocery stores? or Gas stations?
Here in Utah, If you buy Beer or Cigaettes at any store or Gas station you have to show ID, dosn't matter if you're 21 or 95.

I haven't smoked since 1982, I had to show my ID at gas staions for both back then.
