    Before now, as in in the past, I'd guess? It's common to say "before" to mean in the past.

    Yes, I get that, but it (the sentence) seems wrong to me somehow.
    I'm not an English major but I think it's poor grammatically.
    It's like it's got a dangling (unfinished) end to it.
