Just recently I can't make a connection to port 23 telnet from the WAN
side. In my router port 23 is being forwarded to my servers ip. I am not stupid. I know how to configure my router. All my other services are working. When I do a shields up. Probe my ports it shows all my services as open except port 23 all of a sudden shows up as being stealth. It says no evidence of a computer blah, blah. can be seen on port 23. But yet in
my router it is forwarded to my servers internal ip and checked just like the other services showing being open in the probe my ports. People can't connect to via default port 23. When I change the port in the sbbs.ini
file to port 24 I can telent from the wan side. This screws up the other services. I want to be able to use default port 23. The way I understand it shields up is making conenctionms to my router and checking for open or forwarded services. Media Com claims they don't block ports. I say it is being blocked by the isp. They are so stupid they said call telnet. I'm like don't you know your protocals. Has anyone else had problems with
port 23? I am running Sysncronet on Gentoo Linux - I tried setting up syncronet on windows just to see if it was my Gentoo box blocking it.
Same affect still being blocked. My lsof -i tcp:23 says port 23 is listening. It seems like it isn't getting past the router. Thanks for
your help.

Try to telnet to bgdcag.biz on port 23. I am on Mediacom as well (In Carroll, IA so not too far from you) I have the Mediacom Max package (15Mbit down 1Mbit up) and have never had any ports blocked here. I was the first person in Carroll to even get the service from Mediacom and have dealt with a lot of their growth problems.

Kill synchronet and run netcat to listen on port 23
nc -l -p 23
Then get someone to telnet to your IP address
[nigelreed@wibble ~]$ telnet www.sysadmininc.com 23
Trying 71.164.212.67...
Connected to www.sysadmininc.com (71.164.212.67).
Escape character is '^]'.
On your netcat machine you'll see nothing until someone types on the telnet side. Once they do you'll get their text once they hit enter.þ Synchronet þ Maverick BBS - maverick.bbs.us - Come Visit :)
If they get a connection refused then you know something is blocking, or you're redirecting. Are you behind a NAT device?
