Case Summary by Cassidy Nicholas

Retired B-747 captain comes forward to relay an incident that took place in the winter of 1962. According to the witness, he was piloting a DC-3 airplane
over eastern Washington when he noticed what he first thought to be a B-52 descending into Fairchild Air Force Base. He soon became worried as the flight path of this unknown object seemed to be on a collision course with his aircraft.

The witness noted that the object was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed and then stopped suddenly and started to pace his airplane for approximately two minutes. Then the unknown craft suddenly accelerated and ascended in a northwesterly direction climbing at a 30 degree angle and disappeared out of sight. In the witnesses' words, "It came down and stopped. It was incredible how fast it slowed and then how fast is accelerated."

For a minute, everything was quiet in the skies surrounding the DC-3, that was until, the object returned. Out of the northwest sky it descended again at an extremely high rate of speed to slow down and pace the aircraft once again, this time for three minutes.

The witness stated that the object was very bright, but did not affect their vision or burn their eyes. He stated the the craft was a "pure" white, and stated that he had never in his life viewed a color like that. The witness stated, "It illuminated the interior of the cockpit. You could read a newspaper by the light. This light did not hurt my night vision. It did not bother your eyes. No windows. Definitely a metallic object. It did take up a substantial part of my view when it was closest."

Again, the craft made its final climb, this time into the northeastern skies. What astonished the pilot was the how this unknown object maneuvered. Being an experienced pilot, he had never viewed a craft that could remain completely level when it ascended and descended at that speed.

No noise nor propulsion system could be heard or observed at anytime. The witness stated that the air in front of the craft seemed to become a vacuum and it was "pushed" by air pressure behind it.

At this point the witness and his co-pilot understood that they were not in danger, and held no belief of collision so they remained on course. With the winter skies once again quiet, the witness reported that his co-pilot swore him to secrecy, a bond he held until his death.

MUFON Field Investigator James Clarkson was faced with many hurdles as historical cases can be difficult to research. He interviewed this witness on three separate occasions, and ruled that the witness was articulate and consistent in his descriptions. Due to his extensive flight hours and time spent in Military Service the witness was beyond credible and this event was classified as an Unknown.
