The Fostex VF series are nice digital multi-trackers. My VF-80 (8-track) has 99 "programs" but each one can be rather long, so if you don't have your heart set on each song occupying a separate program, then you can really fill that thing up.

However, once you start ping-ponging (bouncing, or collapsing) tracks, then subsequent mastering, those 99 go VERY quickly.

I can tell where the CD-R would come in handy, if for no other purpose than archiving already completed musical ideas / projects.

    Live and Learn, I reckon.

Yea, my VF-160 has the CD-R built in and it's nice just to click on back-up and dump the un-mixed tracks or final mixdowns to cd.

Oh very cool ~ you got the 16 track version with built-in CD-R burner. Very good. I bet the fidelity is amazing on that thing. I love the Fostex series.

Yea, it's definitely a nice upgrade from my Ross 4X4 tape 4 track. I haven't even scratched the surface yet with its capabilities though. What do you record on yours? Do you have a band or just solo recording?
